The 5" Floating Phat Bat is built from our original 5" Phat Bat design, but with one key difference—we removed the salt. By eliminating the salt content, the bait becomes extremely buoyant, giving it a nearly floating characteristic that creates a completely different underwater action.
Without the salt stiffening the plastic, the 5" Floating Phat Bat becomes much more fluid and lively in the water. The softer plastisol allows the bait to move more freely, producing increased action and a slower fall that can trigger bites from even the most pressured bass.
This buoyant design makes the 5" Floating Phat Bat extremely versatile across several popular finesse presentations.
On a Neko Rig, the bait stands up easily off the bottom, perfectly mimicking a baitfish or forage feeding along the lake floor.
On a Texas Rig, the Floating Phat Bat maintains a natural, weightless look as it’s dragged or slowly worked along the bottom.
On a Shakey Head, the tail floats straight up, mimicking a worm feeding off the bottom of the lake making the bait an easy prey bass find difficult to resist.
On a Wacky Rig, the slower fall rate combined with the softer plastic produces an exaggerated side-to-side wiggle that stays in the strike zone longer and draws more attention.
By removing the salt, the 5" Floating Phat Bat becomes a completely different tool compared to traditional salted stick baits. The added buoyancy, increased movement, and natural presentation make it deadly when fish are pressured or hesitant to bite.
If you’re looking for a stick bait with a unique floating action and unmatched versatility, the 5" Floating Phat Bat delivers a presentation bass simply don’t see every day.
Rigging
Rigging
The ideal rig we've found for these is fished wacky style with an o-ring or collar around the mid section. Use a 7' Medium light fast tip spinning rod on 12lb braid to an 8-10lb florocarbon leader. Use a size 2 or 3 Neko hook, thread the hook through the o-ring so the bait is perpendicular to the hook, cast the bait out, let it fall on semi slack line and it will undulate and wiggle on it's way down to the bottom. usually the bites come on the initial fall. If there isn't a bite, give your rod tip some upward pumps, and let the bait fall again on semi slack line, rinse and repeat.
Additional Rigging Options:
Texas
Carolina
Shakey Head
EWG Weightless
Dropshot
Wacky
Neko
Jig Trailer
Flipping/Pitching

Retrieve
When used on a wacky rig, cast or skip the bait towards the desired target, let it fall on semi slack line, being sure to watch the line for any movement. As the bait hits the bottom, pause a few seconds, than lift the rod tip up, raising the bait off the bottom, than lower the rod tip quickly, allowing the line to go slack. This will cause the the bait to ever slightly sink back to the bottom. Repeat this all the way back to the boat. Usually the bite occurs on the pause.

Use 7' Medium Spinning rod, paired up with a 1500 or 2500 series spinning reel, on 12lb braid to 6-8lb Fluorocarbon.

The bass had been hitting the vibrating jig, but today would not chase. I tied on a Bass Union shakey head using a Phat Bat Floater and caught three in short order all on the same worm. Good bait and will buy more. Love the 15 pack. Also when the water warms a little I plan to thread one on a cover shot hook for the floating worm technique. Be nice to have some brighter colors. Hint, hint.
Excellent product will be buying again
