Our Covert Rig is purpose-built and handcrafted for continuous-retrieve soft plastics like our Cross Minnow and Phat Swimmers. Every Covert Rig is individually assembled by hand and hand inspected before packaging to make sure the hook, weight placement, and overall finish meet our quality standards.
Built around a premium, stout VMC 60° hook, the Covert Rig is designed to handle hard-fighting bass while creating the horizontal presentation this rig was made for. The 60° hook-eye geometry helps your soft plastic track naturally through the water while allowing increased side-to-side body roll during the retrieve.
Instead of concentrating the weight at the nose like a traditional jig head, the Covert Rig uses an internally weighted design that places the weight inside the body of the soft plastic. This keeps the bait running more level through the water column and creates a slower, more natural gliding fall rather than immediately forcing the bait nose-down.
Redistributing the weight through the body also allows the soft plastic to move more freely, increasing body roll and creating a subtle, lifelike swimming action that excels around pressured bass and in clear-water situations.
Handcrafted. Hand inspected. Built for a horizontal presentation. The Covert Rig gives our Cross Minnow, Phat Swimmers, and other soft-plastic minnow and swimbait profiles the balance, action, and control needed for a natural swimming presentation.
Rigging
Rigging
Simply insert the hook point into the center of the bait’s nose, then carefully thread the soft plastic down the shank, sliding it securely over the keeper at the line tie. Attach the line to the jighead using a Loop knot for maximum action.
Retreive
Retreive
Make a long cast and allow the bait to sink to the desired depth. Begin a slow, steady retrieve while continuously shaking or lightly twitching the rod tip, using the reel primarily to pick up slack and keep the bait moving toward the boat. These subtle rod movements make the minnow dart, roll, and quiver naturally through the water while the internally weighted rig keeps it running horizontally. Continue working the bait this way throughout the entire retrieve, occasionally mixing in a brief pause or a sharper twitch to trigger following fish.
Rod/Reel/Line
Rod/Reel/Line
This can vary based on the combined weight of the soft plastic and the sized jighead you buy, generally a 6'10"–7' medium-heavy baitcasting rod paired with a 7.2:1 reel and 10 lb fluorocarbon line works well.

I have been using these Covert Rigs on the cross minnows and they have been working great. Was able to catch a number of 2lb bass with them. They also work great with my forward facing graph.
