Our Finesse Covert Rig was purpose built for continuous retrieval style baits like our Cross Minnow and our Phat Swimmers. It's built around a premium VMC 60° hook, with a slightly smaller diameter than our standard Covert Rig. This thinner wire design makes it the perfect match for our 3.5" Cross Minnow or any finesse-style soft plastics that require a pin point hook. The 60 degree hook eye allows the soft plastic to run horizontal and gives it more side to side body roll, attracting the finicky Bass.
The internally weighted system delivers a natural, slow-gliding fall that mimics the movement of distressed prey as it sinks. Unlike traditional forward-weighted jig heads that force a nose-down posture, the Finesse Covert Rig keeps your bait running level through the water column—providing a more lifelike, horizontal presentation that bass can’t resist. By re-distributing the weight into the body of the soft plastic, our Finesse Covert Rig increases body roll, giving it maximum action.
Whether you’re working pressured fish or clear water conditions, this rig gives your soft plastics the perfect balance of finesse and realism.
Rigging
Rigging
Simply insert the hook point into the center of the bait’s nose, then carefully thread the soft plastic down the shank, sliding it securely over the keeper at the line tie. Attach the line to the jighead using a Loop knot for maximum action.
Retrieve
Retrieve
Make a long cast and allow the bait to sink to the desired depth. Begin a slow, steady retrieve while continuously shaking or lightly twitching the rod tip, using the reel primarily to pick up slack and keep the bait moving toward the boat. These subtle rod movements make the minnow dart, roll, and quiver naturally through the water while the internally weighted rig keeps it running horizontally. Continue working the bait this way throughout the entire retrieve, occasionally mixing in a brief pause or a sharper twitch to trigger following fish.
Rod/Reel/Line
Rod/Reel/Line
This can vary based on the combined weight of the soft plastic and the sized jighead you buy, generally a 6'10"–7' medium fast tip spinning rod, paired up with a 2500 series spinning reel 6 lb fluorocarbon line works well.
